Getting a job in Australia is hard for a variety of reasons. In this video, Head Career Coach Langdon Rodda and Careers & Employment Program Director Naren Chellappah outline the key reasons why people struggle to get jobs in Australia.
The process of getting employment becomes harder if you are on an international student visa or a graduate visa. It’s also difficult if you don’t have local experience. But if you implement the right strategy, getting a job in Australia is certainly possible.
Here’s a list of the key reasons why people find it hard to get a job in Australia:
In some cases, a single job advertised on SEEK attracts 200+ applicants! When unemployment goes up, there are more job-seekers in the market competing with you for jobs!
Most employers in Australia will select candidates who have at least 1 – 2 years of Australian working experience. This makes it tough if you’re from overseas.
Picking up ‘Aussie’ culture can be tricky. So immersing yourself in volunteering, attending meet ups and networking will help you.
This comes back to the local experience issue, not having PR or Citizenship or even if you live far from the job!
